Octavia’s Attic Exhibit. Live Worms Gallery in North Beach (SF) Feb 27th-28th 2016
“This was a group showing of Actor’s, Musicians, Performance Artists, etc. all honoring the life of late SF Based Black Fiction Writer Octavia Butler-it was quite an affair and I remember being stoked that there was a lecture from a theoretical physicist about time travel. Our duet was about time staying still essentially. I was having trouble with the term “Afro-Futurism” and how it was becoming a buzz term that more and more was beginning to feel overused and the notion was becoming lost on me. Many i know began to argue how is it futurism if its happening on a stage in front of you? And everything being classified as such had some reference to the past embedded in its DNA. The piece became called “Studies In Afro-Presentism” as all projections of the future are rooted in the present. All journeys should breed some form of transformation be it a boat ride on whatever Ocean or sitting through a ritual theater performance. It’s like how sometimes you cast a spell out of ego and say “It’s about time-time is the subject matter of this” The real aim i think is to make a play saying “I AM TIME”- and also “I CAN SHOW YOU BETTER THAN I CAN TELL YOU”.
